Steven Mitchell , has been on sabbatical with the Tibetan refugees , in the Himalayan region of india in Mecload Gunj, [the home in exile of his holiness the DALI LAMA, and Tibetan Government ]
A meeting was arranged for Mitchell, with sate Oracle to the Tibetan government a divination was given by the Oracle in accordance with Tibetan protocol. Permission and support were granted for Mitchell to undertake a new body of work. ''THE BARDO PAINTINGS'' inspired in part by the Tibetan book of the dead.
Mitchell is now working in Europe and India on this unique project.
The ''Bardo'' in spiritual teachings is:: "The place in between"" death and rebirth, were the human soul can wonder aimlessly. Or with guidance the individual can achieve enlightenment and or rebirth.
in the ''BARDO'' the human sole faces its own symbolic shadow self , in this confrontation, the individual can achieve liberation through embracing the confrontations and understanding they are aspect of ones own shadow self,
in this embrace.
No western Artist has before been given such a blessing by the Oracle.
knowing how Tibetan protocol works , this is indeed a great gift bestowed on Mitchell. He is graced with the gift of being able to see into the ''BARDO'',
and share these visions with us trough his art.
A visual insight into the ''BARDO'' is a great pre curser for us all, as we navigate the shadow of our own selves to achieve a greater understand of our human condition, and move towards the light.
